THE IMPORTANCE OF WARMING-UP AND COOLING-DOWN

LOUISVILLE, KY

The University of Louisville softball team held its fourth annual Bullpen Club Dinner Saturday, Jan. 22 at the Galt House. The dinner featured two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and ESPN analyst Michele Smith as the keynote speaker.

"This is always a special event for us as it provides a great opportunity for our team to meet with fans and those who have helped build our program," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "We are grateful to Michele Smith for taking time out her busy schedule to help us prepare for our upcoming season. It was great for our players and fans to hear from someone who has had such an inspirational career and has continued to promote our sport on both the national and international scenes."

The 2011 Bullpen Club Dinner drew over 200 people, including several alumnae as the 2011 team was introduced. The softball program also announced the second annual "Spirit of Softball" recipient, Lorie Horner who was honored for her commitment to advancing the game of softball in the Louisville area.

The Cards finished last season with a 41-19 record and earned their seventh consecutive NCAA tournament bid. Louisville returns 14 letterwinners from last year's squad including reigning BIG EAST Conference Player of the Year, senior Chelsea Bemis along with all-conference team members Tori CollinsKristin AustinColby Wherry and Alicja Wolny. The returning players will be joined by five freshmen.

U of L opens the 2011 season against No. 18/19 Texas at the Texas Invitational Feb. 11-13 in Austin, Texas.
